Pip Wright and author Pip, introduces a fresh topic to many of our members

14 October Beccles in the First World War this expert Beccles historian

David Lindley returns to exlain how the war period affected residents of Beccles

28 October BA medical student at Belsen-Bergen now a retired Lowestoft

Gordon Walker GP, he helped in the liberation of this Nazi concentration camp

11 November Tolhouse, Great Yarmouth’s Medieval Gaol closed in 1878,

Les Cole and now used as a museum, its history stretches back over 800 years

25 November East Anglian Goldsmiths 1500–1740a history teacher for 27

Mary Fewster years, Mary has also studied the Great Yarmouth Herring Industry

Ian McClachan brings evocative descriptions of ‘digs’, courage, sacrifice and bravery

David Summers David will bring an expert view on G Skipper’s work in East Anglia

Note: Most meetings are held in the South Lowestoft Methodist Church Hall, at

the corner of London Road South and Carlton Road, starting at 7.30 pm, but

occasionally we visit other venues and those details will be posted in the Society’s
